History Great food since 1975
Founded over 30 years ago, Chez Gérard has built its reputation on the 'best steak-frites this side of Paris'.
The first restaurant on Charlotte Street, in London's Fitzrovia, was a mecca for carnivores and evoked the old world charm of Paris. The menus were in French, the staff barely spoke English, there were few non-meat dishes and the wine offering was robust but somewhat limited. It was a truly French gastronomic experience.
The evolution of good taste
We are proud to offer a fantastic range of steaks, all farm assured and aged for at least 21 days, sourced from 24 individual farms across the West Country ensuring exceptional flavour and succulent taste. Whilst ‘steak-frites’ remains the favourite among our guests, new and unusual cuts have been introduced and the menu continues to evolve.
You’ll also find free-range lamb from the Cotswolds on our menu and Packington free-range Pork from Staffordshire. Our ‘Cou Nu’ chicken comes from the Landes region of France, and our oysters are from the Marennes region, where the finest oysters are produced and finished at sea for a minimum of three weeks for a unique flavour.
There is now also a wider range of dishes on offer and lighter fish and vegetarian dishes are a permanent and welcome addition.
The menu is still in French, bien sur, but with English descriptions, the wine list features a delicious range of New World wines as well as the perennial favourites, which complement a truly great steak so well!
Upholding tradition
Some things though, haven't changed. Chez Gérard still offers the best French bistro cooking and our chefs only cook with the freshest ingredients, carefully sourced and provenance assured.
There are now 7 Chez Gérard restaurants in some of the finest locations in London, from the City to Covent Garden.
Whether you have been a long time fan or have only recently discovered Chez Gérard, we hope to see you again soon! Santé et bon appétit!
